On 21 October next, Bizkaia Bridge will be the setting of another high-rise extreme sports event. This time, the bravest participants will climb up the maintenance staircase of the Getxo tower to a height of 40 metres with a safety harness. Once at the top, they will run 160m across the upper walkway until they reach the Portugalete tower; all of this while the shuttle bridge continues operating.
This is the “EXTREME SUSPENSION BRIDGE RACE”, a race comparable to world events like the Empire State Building Run-Up in New York, the Sydney Tower Stair in Australia or the Eiffel Tower Vertical Race in Paris, to name just a few. But with one difference, the format of the Bizkaia Bridge race only allows training and race runs on the weekend chosen, i.e., once a year.
Collection of numbers and schedules:
Friday 19 October – 10:00 to 19:00 at the “Gran Hotel Puente Colgante” in Portugalete (19:00 briefing)
