Y es que, durante sus 125 a\u00f1os de historia, este primer puente transbordador del mundo ha ido evolucionando poco a poco hasta convertirse en todo un referente como puente colgante.<\/p>\n<p>La estructura b\u00e1sica est\u00e1 formada por cuatro torres de hierro de 61 metros de altura que constituyen los pilares del Puente, unidas entre as\u00ed por un travesa\u00f1o de 160 metros de longitud, situado a 45 metros de altura sobre el nivel de pleamar.<\/p>\n<p>Un dato curioso es que su sobrenombre de colgante no viene de la suspensi\u00f3n de la barquilla, sino que hace referencia a que el travesa\u00f1o horizontal superior, de donde pende la barquilla, \u201cgravita\u201d entre las torres mediante 70 cables de acero denominados p\u00e9ndolas. La estructura, en realidad, no est\u00e1 soldada ni remachada a las torres o pilares, sino tan solo sujetada por estas p\u00e9ndolas, que soportan gran parte del peso.<\/p>\n<p>La actual barquilla, que data de 1998, dispone de capacidad para 6 veh\u00edculos y 200 pasajeros y, su estructura cuelga de un carro de 36 ruedas y 25 metros de longitud que se desplaza a trav\u00e9s de los carriles del travesa\u00f1o horizontal.<\/p>\n<p>Por \u00faltimo, podemos contaros que la duraci\u00f3n actual de viaje entre las dos m\u00e1rgenes de la R\u00eda es de un minuto y medio; la frecuencia de transbordo es de ocho minutos.
